in vine covered hills just north of Tavarnelle val di Pesa, Il
Conventino has stood for nearly 800 years. Once home to a small
order of contemplative nuns, the graciously restored buildings now offer a
charming retreat for the traveler. There are stunning views of the famous
Antinori vineyards and the incredible Tuscan landscape from the estate.
The grounds are beautifully landscaped with lovely gardens, quiet retreats
and a fabulous pool and lounge area.
Within Il Conventino's ancient stone walls, the center
courtyard remains much as it was hundreds of years ago. There are three
beautiful apartments within these walls, each with its own private
entrance. Each of the spacious apartments is beautifully furnished with
tasteful antiques and reproductions and original artwork. Terra cotta
floors and traditional Tuscan ceiling tiles are accented by high ceilings
and white walls. Tiled baths include showers. The spacious kitchens
include dishwashers and ample counter space. Courtyard dining can be
arranged. A charming stone cottage for four persons with a separate
entrance and courtyard is also available.
Apartment 1 is
entered from the courtyard terrace on the second floor. With three double
bedrooms and two full baths, it accommodates 6. The high cathedral
ceilings and marvelous views of the countryside make these rooms
especially attractive. A living room with fireplace and beautiful
furnishings and a spacious country kitchen have attractive views.
 Apartment
2, the largest, accommodates up to 9 with four double bedrooms, a
single bedroom and three full baths. The spacious dining room with
fireplace opens onto a large private garden with wonderful views. The
large country kitchen is fully equipped. The living room is tastefully
furnished with antiques and original artwork. A corridor separates the
other bedrooms from the living areas. Upstairs, guests may gather in an
exquisitely appointed formal sitting room and enjoy the views of the
surrounding countryside.
Apartment 3 is
entered from the second floor terrace of the courtyard and has one double
bedroom, a full bath, kitchen and comfortable living room. It accommodates
two.
The Cottage stands
below the main house on a private drive. Inside the courtyard there is a
vine covered pergola for outdoor dining and a barbeque. There are two
bedrooms, one double and one twin and one full bathroom with shower.
Furnishings are casual and comfortable. Note that The Cottage
is not available for rent in 2007.
Il Conventino
is just 3 km from Tavarnelle val di Pesa where shops and restaurants are
conveniently located. Many of the country villages have wonderful
trattorie serving delicious homemade pastas, locally produced virgin
olive oil and the wines of the Chianti. Day trips to Florence, Siena, and
San Gimignano are within easy driving distance. |
