 Overlooking the rugged hills and beautiful vineyards of the Chianti
Classico countryside, Villa Palagio, a comfortable
country house for 9, is located on a small wine-producing
estate, Castello Il Palagio. The views of the sun-drenched Tuscan
landscape are breathtaking. The grounds include quiet shady areas
for relaxing with a good book. The delightful olive groves will make a
wonderful picnic area.
Within Villa Palagio’s ancient stone walls, the
terra cotta floors and traditional Tuscan ceiling tiles and beams
have been carefully preserved. The entrance foyer on the ground
floor contains a forno (pizza oven) and stairs to the main living area. Upstairs,
guests enjoy the spacious living room with comfortable furnishings.
 A massive fireplace is the focal point of
the well-equipped classic country kitchen. With plenty of counter space and a
family sized dining table, this room is the heart of the home. There are two
full baths with shower, three double bedrooms, one twin bedroom and one single
bedroom. Furnishings are comfortable and include some lovely country antiques.
Villa Palagio offers a splendid opportunity to
explore one of the world’s famous wine producing regions. Besides
the Bottega (wine shop) at the medieval Castello Il Palagio, just
down the private road from the villa, the countryside is dotted with
small estates and fattorie offering local wines at great prices. The
rural villages are filled with trattorie offering fresh, seasonal vegetables
drenched in pure virgin olive oil and meats simply grilled over a wood
fire, and, of course, a liter of “vino locale”. If you can tear yourself
away from the beauty of Chianti Classico, you will find that Florence,
Siena and San Gimignano are within easy driving distance. |
