The gentle rolling hills of Lucca form the backdrop for Il Basso, a spacious country house for 8 persons. From its wisteria covered terrace, guests may enjoy extraordinary views of the surrounding olive groves and vineyards, and occasionally, in the distance, the Mediterranean. The peaceful, rural setting makes this a wonderful retreat for long walks, picnics in the olive groves and just relaxing under the Tuscan sun.

Il Basso has been tastefully restored to preserve its authentic Tuscan features. The three ground floor rooms have French doors opening onto a beautiful terrace. The large country kitchen has a traditional Tuscan hearth as well as a full size refrigerator-freezer, a second freezer, stove, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. The marble-topped kitchen table is large enough for all to gather round. There is a spacious formal dining room and a comfortably furnished living room, both with fireplaces. Upstairs, there are 4 bedrooms (2 with double bed and 2 with twin beds) and 3 full baths with stall showers. Furnishings are comfortable and include some lovely country antiques. Bedroom windows have mosquito screens.  The bedrooms are air conditioned as well.

In addition, Il Basso includes a nice-sized, in-ground swimming pool. The pool is, of course, for the exclusive use of the guests at Il Basso.

Il Basso offers wonderful views and spacious grounds. The terrace off the kitchen is covered with wisteria and makes a charming spot for al fresco dining. Shopping is available a short distance away. Of course, there are many restaurants and trattorie within easy driving distance. Lucca is just 10 km; the beaches of Pietrasanta and Viareggio are about 20 km. Florence, Siena, and San Gimignano are within easy driving distance.

Renting Il Basso

Prices include a welcome drink, pool and garden maintenance, final cleaning, bed and bath linen, and 3 hours of cleaning  on Tuesday (and Saturday, for multiple week bookings). Payment for utilities (€130/week for central heating, by meter for eletrical and telephone usage) is made direct to the owner/caretaker prior to departure. Extra maid service (€10/hour) and cooking service are available at additional cost.

A security deposit of $600 is collected with your final payment, and returned to you within one month following your departure from Il Basso, less any charges for breakage.
