 Situated high above the town of Borgo a Mozzano in the Serchio
valley, Casa nella Selva is a charming, three story hillside farmhouse that
sleeps 6 - 8. Casa nella Selva is just half an hour north of Lucca
and
offers spectacular views of the Apuan Alps to the north and west, and the Borgo and
Serchio river below. Restored by local workmen,
Casa nella Selva
is beautiful, tranquil, and authentic but comfortable, with a spectacular third floor
living space that overlooks the valley, town and mountains.
The second floor has sleeping accommodations for up
to 8 persons (great old beds) in three large bedrooms, all with views. The
ground floor has a fully equipped kitchen with fireplace and a separate
dining/sitting room leading to a plant-lined stone terrace. There are full
bathrooms upstairs and downstairs, both with American-style showers, plus
washing machine, central heating, outdoor oven, telephone, e-mail hookup, and a
stereo. The outside includes a garden, hammock, table and chairs for eating, and
a two-car parking area.
Casa nella Selva is perfect for settling in or as a base from which
to explore this least-spoiled and most dramatic corner of Tuscany. An hour and a
half from the center of Florence,
 to the north is the exquisite hilltown of Barga
and the heart of the Garfagnana, the region's premier trekking area. To the west
are the beaches of Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi (45-60 minutes' drive). One can
make easy day trips to Cinque Terre, Carrara, Florence, and Pisa (one hour to the
airport, with easy connections to Paris and London, as well as throughout Italy).
There is also excellent bus and train service daily, to Lucca and elsewhere, for
those who prefer not to drive. |
