Colle Cesoni - R40

Located on a hill amidst olive trees and cherry orchards, Colle Cesoni is a 19th century farm estate in the Sabina countryside northeast of Rome that accommodates guests in three separate farm cottages that have been lovingly and carefully restored by the owners. Original terracotta floors, wood-beamed ceilings, charming fireplaces, tasteful country antique furnishings, private gardens, a quiet atmosphere and superb views of the Farfa River Valley and the lush, tree-lined hills of the Sabina countryside make this a relaxing and comfortable base for excursions to Rome, Umbria, Tuscany and the Sabina area.  Rome is only 56 kilometers away and easily reached by train from the nearby Fara Sabina station.  Nearby sights include the ancient Farfa Abbey, a repository of artworks, frescos and other antiquities, and the medieval, walled city of Rieti on the Via Salaria (old Roman “salt road”).

Closer at hand, less than one-third of a mile, is the medieval village of Casaprota, which has ancient ties to Colle Cesoni:  village peasants once came to the “aia” (threshing floor) at Colle Cesoni to clean wheat and bake bread in the brick oven that is still being used.  The village offers guests the conveniences of a grocery store, bakery, pharmacy, gas station, and post office, and amenities such as cooking classes taught by a local chef.  Ten minutes drive away is a shopping center with a supermarket, automatic bank machines, and other services.

Guests will be welcomed with an arrival basket of local products such as olive oil, cherry jam, and wine; milk, coffee, tea, mineral water, and biscuits.

Il Forno

Il Forno is a charming one-story farm cottage for two to four with its own private garden. The cottage has a cozy living/dining room with a fireplace and a double sofa bed.  The bedroom is furnished with twin beds that can be made into one large bed. The kitchen is well-equipped with a refrigerator, four-burner stovetop, and microwave oven, and the bathroom has a shower, hair dryer, and a washing machine.  Guests can relax and enjoy views of the countryside on outdoor patio furniture in the private garden.

Il Portico

With its original stone structure intact, Il Portico is a rustic-looking two-story farm cottage for two to five, surrounded by its own private garden.  The first floor consists of a typical rural-style living/dining room with a kitchen corner and a fireplace.  The kitchen is well-equipped with a double sink, refrigerator, 4-burner stovetop, and an oven. There is also a modern bathroom on this floor with a shower, hair dryer, and washing machine. Upstairs, there is a bedroom with a double bed, fireplace and sitting area with a sofa bed.  A small terrace off the bedroom provides panoramic views of the countryside.  A loft area, accessed via stairs from the living area, contains two twin beds.  Outdoor patio furniture and a rambling tile-roofed veranda provide pleasant places to relax and enjoy the gardens and views of the countryside.

La Pergola

La Pergola is a charming split level detached  house, maintaining its old stone structure, terracotta floors and wooden ceiling beams. On the ground floor are a living/dining room with Satellite TV and a double sofa bed, a Kitchen (well equipped with oven and hob and fridge/freezer), and a. bathroom with shower, hair dryer, and electric shaver outlet. Wooden stairs lead to the second floor large double bedroom (with window screens).  The hour is centrally heated.  It features a private furnished garden with marvelous views.

For groups of 6 to 8 staying two weeks minimum,  there is the possibility of connecting both cottages, Il Portico and La Pergola, to a new apartment not available separately, providing a very comfortable villa with 3 independent bedrooms and three private bathrooms, by transforming the 2 bedrooms at La Pergola into a large living area.
