Via
Giulia is a 16th century fashionable street connecting St.
Peter’s to central Rome. This street runs parallel with the
Tiber River, and was built by Julius II to connect the Ponte
Sisto with the Vatican. It was considered the center of papal
Rome, and Julius commissioned Bramante to line it with imposing
elegant palaces, like Palazzo Falconieri and old churches like
San Eligio. It still remains an elegant residential area of the
city with it’s cobblestoned streets and antique shops, and
somehow retains the peaceful feeling of a Rome long since past.
The area around Via Giulia is a wonderful section to wander
through and get the feeling of daily life as carried on in a
centuries old-setting. At your doorstep is Piazza Navona, Piazza
Farnese, Campo dei Fiori and the Pantheon. The Spanish Steps are
just a few minutes walking distance.
RGIU - Via Giulia sleeps 4 - 6, and is on the third
floor (there is an elevator). It is quite spacious (about 1000
square feet), and is fully furnished and equipped, including
linen and towels. It has a large sunny roman-style living-room
with a hand painted and decorated high golden ceiling crossed by
wooden beams, the floor is of terra-cotta, and two windows look
onto Via Giulia itself. The large living area also contains a
sofa, 2 easy chairs and an lounge chair. All the rooms open off
a long corridor with a parquet floor: the main bathroom, tiled
with white & green ceramics, with a large shower box, a
double bedroom (which can also be converted into 2 twin beds),
with a wooden wardrobe. The master bedroom has a queen sized
bed, a closet, and a master bathroom with hand-painted ceramics,
shower and tub. The fully equipped kitchen is tiled with
white&blue ceramics, and contains a refrigerator, a
microwave, a double stainless steel sink, and a small balcony.
There is a telephone, a color TV set and a hair-dryer. |
