Podere San Luigi-F08
Podere
San Luigi is a family estate just outside the city of Colle Val
d'Elsa. In the center of Tuscany, Podere San Luigi provides the perfect
springboard for exploring nearby Florence, Siena, San Gimignano,
Monteriggioni, Volterra and the Chianti Classico area. It is even close
enough for an easy day trip to the Mediteranean Sea to the West!
Colle is a treat unto itself. It is a
medieval hilltown in two parts. The original high (alta) part of
town sits atop the hill and is surrounded by the more modern part (bassa)
at its base. Colle Alta dates from about 1000 A.D. It has a pleasant
museum, a duomo, and several fine restaurants. Colle Bassa has a
town square (piazza) with many shops and in which a mercado (traveling
market) holds forth every Friday morning. Colle, known for its
glassware, is also the birthplace of Arnolfo di Cambio, the first
architect of the Duomo of Florence.
Podere
San Luigi offers two guest accommodations. Both share the
use of a 20' X 40' in ground, vinyl swimming pool.
Main Villa
- Reached via a private entrance road lined with cypress trees, the
Main Villa is in the traditional classical colonial architecture with
two levels, each of about 1500 square feet. The villa was restored by an
Italian artist in the late 1970's and comfortably sleeps 8.
The ground level is double vaulted, in
the Sienese style, with a large open salotto (living room), a
modern kitchen, a dining area, a bathroom, a utility room, and a large
rear terrace. The salotto has a variety of furniture: soft club
chairs and settee, television, table and chairs, a desk, and
bookshelves. The dining area has a 100-year-old dining set. The kitchen
has built-in cabinets, a gas stove, refrigerator, and a dishwasher. The
kitchen opens onto a covered patio on the terrace which is a delightful
location for dining "al fresco".
The upper level, reached by
either a grand entrance staircase or an elevator, has 4 bedrooms with
each 2 bedrooms sharing a bath (tub with shower, toilet, bidet, and
sink). Each bedroom has contemporary furniture with a "matrimoniale"
(queen-sized) bed with a firm mattress. This level also has a second
sitting area/family room. Guest Villa - Surrounded
by olive trees, the Guest Villa is reached by a private entrance road.
With three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen and dining area and
living room the Guest Villa sleeps 6. The Guest Villa has a portico
across the East and the North sides with a stone barbeque. The rear
patio is surrounded with bushes. There is also a garage for parking a
vehicle.
The main entrance faces east with a hall
separating the entrance from the living area and a staircase to the
second floor. The dining area, has a traditional style dining table
seating 6. There are floor to ceiling folding doors leading to the rear
patio. The living area has a fireplace and a picture window. The
furniture is modern rustic. Floors of both the living and dining areas
are of marble. To the left of the
living area is a modern eat-in kitchen, with built-in cabinets, a gas
stove, refrigerator, and table and chairs. There is a full bathroom on
the ground floor with a sink, toilet, bidet, and shower. The upper level has three bedrooms. One
bedroom has a full private bathroom (tub, toilet, bidet and sink). The
furniture is contemporary, and the bed is a "matrimoniale"
(queen) with a firm mattress. The
second bedroom, also has a private bathroom (tub, separate shower,
toilet, bidet and sink). The furniture is contemporary and the bed is
also a "matrimoniale" (queen) with firm mattress.
The third bedroom is smaller, with a bed
settee that opens into two single beds. All three bedrooms have marble
floors and doors opening onto balconies. From the balconies it is
possible to see the towers of San Gimignano.
