Azienda Pilari-U02
With
one foot in Tuscany and the other in Umbria, the beautifully restored Azienda
Agraria
Pilari offers an ideal location for exploring both provinces.
This lovely restored country estate is within walking distance of a
small village, Mercatale di Cortona, with several shops and trattorie. The town is
20 km east of Cortona, and only 12 km north of Lake Trasimeno.
The old family home at Azienda Pilari
is on the site of an ancient village. The oldest part of the
village was built as a guard tower of the nearby Pierle castle. Its location
is noted on maps of the thirteenth century. In 2005, the main
family house in this location was completely renovated to provide 3
additional rental apartments, each with central heating and private
entrance. Nearby (about 500 meters towards the village), 2 additional farm buildings
were previously and beautifully renovated into tasteful apartments with modern
conveniences and old world charm. Up the valley stands the ruin of the
ancient Pierle castle with four of its nine original towers still
standing. Many of the present houses around Mercatale di Cortona were built with
the stones from the ruins of the castle. There are
now seven apartments for rent on the grounds of Azienda
Pilari., The Passagio Apartments, closest to
the village of Mercatale di Cortona and adjacent to the
spacious private pool, consist of two with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, and two with 1
bedroom and 1 bathroom. On the site of the old village, about 1/2 km
distant from the pool, are the 3
additional units, located in the owner's
former home. These apartments are called the Village
apartments, and consist of "Stalla", with 1 bedroom and 1
bathroom, "Castagnolo" with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms,
and "Tabaccaia" with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom.
These have a private driving entrance from the highway, a separate
parking area, and outdoor furniture and sitting areas. Access to
the pool is by a short walk or by automobile, as desired. The
2 bedroom Passaggio apartments,
Refs U02A and U02B, are in
a stone
building, one on the 2nd floor and one on the
3rd, or top floor. Each apartment has a private entrance via a stairway
on the left side of the building. The 1 bedroom Passaggio apartments, Refs U02C
and U02D, completed with remarkable taste and attention to
detail in 1996, are in separate building.. One has
a front, ground floor entrance, while the other is located on the second
floor, and is entered via an outside stairwell at the rear of the
building. The beautifully landscaped private pool,
tiled lounge area, and a large,
lighted parking area, for exclusive use by guests at all of the Azienda
Pilari apartments, are located just behind these buildings.
There is an ample supply of outdoor furniture for use of the guests as
well.
