Villa Salce a
nicely restored country home dating back to 800 for up to seven, is
located on a private estate. From its high perch, Villa
Salce offers commanding views of the Chiasco
river valley. The ancient town of Gubbio, where guests can enjoy
sophisticated shopping and wonderful Umbrian cuisine, is only 10 km from
this captivating country estate. Gentle rolling hills covered with
vineyards and olive groves dominate the countryside here. Throughout the
quiet villages of Umbria, local trattorie feature handmade pastas with
truffle and game sauces, distinctive Umbrian wines and fragrant pane
rusticana. Besides the city of Gubbio,
you may want to visit Perugia (30km), Assisi (40 km) or Todi (50
km), shop in Deruta, stroll Frances Mayes'
favorite - Cortona, or day trip to Rome or Florence (only 2.5 hours
away).
Villa Salce
enjoys a
very private setting with wonderful outdoor views and experiences. Villa Salce is on a family
estate of 1000 acres, of which 300 acres are fenced for raising and hunting
deer.
There are many trails, 4 ponds (two of which are stocked with fish) and
a meandering forest stream to explore.

available for guest use. Alongside the house are 2 shaded
sitting/eating/relaxing areas. These areas are lighted and well
supplied with tables and furniture including a hammock/swing and a
barbeque.

In addition to the proximity
of the towns and cities mentioned above, the closest shops are
3 miles,
cafes/bars 2 miles, and
restaurants are just
1 and 2 miles away.
On
the main entrance level, there is a spacious living room with fireplace
and digital satellite receiver with large screen satellite TV with home theatre
system (with DVD and VCR) and stereo
equipment. The country kitchen includes a dishwasher
and large refrigerator-freezer. The comfortable library (convertible to
twin bedded room) opens to a truly
unique recreation room with a beautiful heated indoor pool (10 x 5
meters) and the personal gym equipment. The pool room is bathed in
natural light with 4 skylights, floor to ceiling windows along one wall
and large windows along the other external walls. The main level bath
has a Jacuzzi whirlpool tub.
On the lower level,
accessed by either of two spiral staircases or a rear entry, the large bedrooms include two double bedded rooms
(both with stereos), a twin
bedded room and a singled bedded room. The biggest bedroom has a large
fireplace and seating area. The spacious bathroom includes a
large tub and a separate shower. There is a laundry room with washing
machine on this level.

Villa Salce rents
for 1 week minimum, Saturday to Saturday. Prices are per week,
all inclusive, except as noted below. Extra costs must be
paid in Euro upon departure.
The cost of
heating of the house and pool is based on consumption.
Heating usage is, of course, dependent largely on the outside
temperature. Natural heating of the pool is normally
sufficient for the months of mid-May through September, while
the cost of heating the house may be anywhere from €70 to €200.
In April and October, the weekly cost of heating is normally
€150-€200, and can be as high as €800 in the coldest months. At
least 1 week's notice must be given to the owner if you wish to
have the pool heated.
Air conditioning
is available for the entire house. Use of air conditioning
will be charged at the rate of €150/week.
Calls and faxes
to land lines in Italy, the European Union, and the USA/Canada
may be made free of charge. High-speed internet access is
also available free of charge by connecting to the provided
modem. Other free amenities include 3 mountain bikes, a
canoe, and a baby bed and high chair. Ample parking at the door is
available. There are additional accommodations for overflow
guests by advance arrangement.
Additional
amenities at a cost include a cellular telephone - available for rent for €25/week
plus usage. Additional cleaning is available for €12/hour, and a cook can be
available with advance notice for a cost of €45/hour + the cost
of the ingredients. An English speaking baby-sitter is available
at a cost of €15/hour. Horseback riding is available 15
minutes by car distant at a cost of €15/hour per person.
English speaking guided tours may be arranged at a cost of
€50/hour, with a minimum of 4 hours. Hunting and
fishing rights are available and must be arranged in advance.
Grocery shopping
is available for €15 plus the cost of the items. All shops
are closed on Sundays. A grocery list can be provided no
later than 4 days in advance of arrival, and the items will be
in the house upon arrival.
A few English-language DVDs are
available at the property. Additional movies may be rented
in Gubbio.
A security deposit of $500 is
collected with your final payment, and returned within a month
of your departure from the villa, less any charges for
loss/breakage. |
